MINNEAPOLIS, June 12, 2006 — Stacey Clawson, principal learning architect, and Liz Frame, course designer, at Capella University, an accredited* online university, have won a top award for innovation in distance education. The National University Telecommunications Network, a network of professionals advancing higher education through technology and distance learning, selected “Next Generation Learning: Problem-based Learning in an Online Environment” for its Outstanding Distance Education Innovation Award 2006.
Keith Koch, director of next-generation learning at Capella University, said the award recognizes not only Clawson and Frame but many of the employees at Capella University. The Capella team applied an innovative problem-based learning approach and groundbreaking use of learning-platform technology in two redesigned courses in the School of Business and Technology. “These courses are an excellent example of what's possible in the next generation of online learning,” said Koch. “It combines a problem-based learning design with technology in new ways to provide real-world learning experiences, enrich the online-education process, and save time for learners and faculty.”
