Capella University faculty member named president-elect of the Florida Association for Marriage and Family Therapy

Capella University Names Dr. Feranda Williamson Dean of School of Undergraduate Studies

MINNEAPOLIS, October 25, 2007 – Capella University (www.capella.edu), an accredited*, fully online university based in Minneapolis, has named Feranda Williamson, EdD, as dean of its School of Undergraduate Studies. Dr. Williamson, who most recently served as the school’s associate dean, has more than 25 years experience in higher education leadership positions.
As dean, she will act as the chief academic officer of Capella University’s School of Undergraduate Studies, which has more than 3,000 students enrolled in three online degree programs and 19 specializations.

Prior to joining Capella in 2005, Williamson held leadership positions at two Chicago-area colleges. At Malcolm X College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, she served as dean of career programs and dean of continuing education. During her time there, she was an Outstanding Education Administrator award recipient from the 7th Congressional District. Prior to her tenure at Malcolm X College, she was an associate dean and program director for Robert Morris College, as well as a member of the business faculty. Since 1994, Williamson has also served as president/CEO of the ECC Music Workshop/Chicago Mass Choir, a two-time, Grammy-nominated gospel choir, with which Williamson has also toured, nationally and internationally.

Williamson received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois; her Master of Arts in Adult Education from Roosevelt University in Chicago; and her Doctor of Education in Higher Education from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale.

Capella University Introduces Four New Online Degree Specializations

They include Gerontology, a specialization within Capella’s Master of Science in Human Services, and Early Childhood Education, a specialization within its Master of Science in Education. Capella University PhD student named superintendent of Wyoming school district

MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 16, 2007 – Teresa Chaulk, a PhD student at Capella University (www.capella.edu), has been named superintendent of Lincoln County School District Number One in Wyoming. She began in her new role on July 1. Lincoln County School District Number One is located in the southwest portion of Wyoming. Capella University PhD graduate authors book on real-time, on-line database recovery

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 24, 2007 – Jeffrey Test, a PhD graduate of Capella University (www.capella.edu), an accredited,* fully online university with nearly 20,000 students, has authored a book on real-time, on-line database recovery titled Surviving the Next Database Disaster. “Access to database information is critical to the survival of any business. The loss of regional power, political and public unrest, natural disasters, or even an unfortunate mistake by a construction worker digging through a phone cable can drive modern data-reliant businesses and their business partners into bankruptcy,” Test said. “Any organization that uses information stored in databases or has relationships with businesses that use databases is at risk. What I’ve done with this book is to clearly and methodically outline how to diminish that risk.” Test explained that the book is for anyone looking to build a survivable architecture for small to medium-sized databases. For those who do planning on the continuation of operations, the book explains how to continue operations after losing your primary data center, illustrating the point through case studies in which it was handled poorly. Published by VDM Publishing, the 100-page book is Test’s first, and is based largely on the doctoral dissertation he wrote for Capella. Test graduated in March 2006 from the online university with a PhD in organization and management with a specialization in IT management. Charter school sponsored by Capella University to begin classes Sept. 4

MINNEAPOLIS, August 29, 2007 – The East Range Academy of Technology and Science (ERATS), a charter high school in northern Minnesota that is sponsored by Capella University, will open for its first day of school on Sept. 4, 2007. Capella University (www.capella.edu) is an accredited, fully online university and a leader in online education. Charter schools are K-12 public schools that operate independently from the school district in which they are located.

ERATS will provide a rigorous, personalized curriculum to high school students of all achievement levels to prepare them for post-secondary education or training, and will assist students in becoming independent learners who are proficient in the use of 21st century technology. By offering a curriculum that focuses on science, technology and entrepreneurship, ERATS gives students on the Iron Range access to educational opportunities that most public schools in the area don’t offer.

According to Amy Hendrickson, co-director and a teacher at the school, ERATS will offer its students flexible scheduling with various start and end times. Fridays will be reserved for activities outside the school, which currently has 65 students enrolled in grades 10 through 12, such as internships and job shadowing. Hendrickson added that the school will integrate technology into the classrooms as much as possible, such as the use of social media like wikis and blogs, and will offer classes on subjects such as robotics and Web page design.
