Capella University Launches Three New MBA Specializations

May 5, 2006

MINNEAPOLIS, May 5, 2006 — To respond to the need for advanced education in three of the nation's fastest growing fields, Capella University has announced that its School of Business and Technology will be offering specializations in project management, IT management, and health care management through its online MBA program. The new specializations will be offered beginning with the online university's July 2006 quarter.

Project management is one of the most sought-after skills in organizations today. In a 2006 survey by the Society for Information Management, skills related to project management and overall business capabilities represented eight of the top 10 IT skills businesses felt were critical to keep in-house. Capella's MBA specialization in project management will provide the marketplace with professionals who not only have project management expertise, but also overall management and leadership skills.

The Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) rank computer and information systems managers as one of the top two growth areas among management professions, with 36 percent growth predicted by 2012. Capella's MBA specialization in IT management will help meet the growing need for professionals who have both IT and general management skills.

The BLS also ranked medical and health services management as one of the top growth occupations, with a predicted 29 percent growth rate by 2012. Like all Capella MBA specializations, the health care management specialization is designed to provide learners with practical knowledge they can apply to their jobs immediately.

“These new MBA specializations will help address the growing need for project management, IT management, and health care management skills in today's marketplace,” said Barbara Butts Williams, PhD, faculty director of Capella's online MBA program. “It will also leverage the existing strengths that our School of Business and Technology and School of Human Services have in these areas.”

Capella is now accepting enrollment applications for the new MBA specializations. For more information, please call 1-888-CAPELLA or e-mail info@capella.edu. Approval for these specializations is pending in Ohio. Contact an enrollment counselor for current approval status in this state.
