CENTER FOR TRANSFORMING STUDENT SERVICES (CENTSS) NAMES CAPELLA UNIVERSITY’S CAREER SERVICES A BEST PRACTICE

October 23, 2006

MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 23, 2006 — The Center for Transforming Student Services (CENTSS) has identified the career services provided by Capella University (www.capella.edu) as a best practice in providing student services online, specifically the online university’s career services related to resume development and CV training.  Capella, which is an accredited online university and a leader in online education, offers its 16,000 online degree students career planning and development from enrollment through graduation, including one-on-one career guidance and job search assistance. Capella staff members Julie Ofstedal and Amy Olmscheid have been instrumental in Capella’s efforts in this area. “Upon making these tools available to our students, we saw an immediate improvement in the quality of resume and CV drafts being submitted for review. They have been tremendously helpful in providing guidance to a large number of students simultaneously,” Ofstedal said. According to CENTSS, “these services demonstrate ways in which institutions make effective services available over the Internet, providing models for other institutions to emulate.”

The Center for Transforming Student Services (http://www.centss.org) is a virtual resource for higher education institutions interested in assessing the quality of their student services offered via the Web. More than 120 companies—such as Boeing, Johnson & Johnson, Farmers Insurance, and Xerox—have selected Capella University as an education provider and offer tuition discounts and reimbursement for their employees.
