Cincinnati, Feb. 5, 2007 – Teresa Nared, a PhD student studying organization and management at Capella University, an accredited, fully online university, has been named a Profiles in Courage 2007 Honoree by Fifth Third Bank, WCPO-TV, the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati, the University of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Herald.Profiles in Courage recognizes the resilience and courage of African Americans who have met life’s challenges.  Nared, who is a single mother of two children and a college access advisor for the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative, has been pursuing her higher education goals for the past 12 years. She expects to graduate with her PhD from Capella in 2009. Nearly 85 percent of Capella’s students are pursuing master’s or PhD degrees.  “When I found out I would be a Profiles in Courage honoree, I was elated and proud as well. As you journey through life, the achievements you make are their own reward. But still, when I learned of this award, I was shocked,” Nared says. Nared will be honored at a special reception on Feb. 8 at the University of Cincinnati.  In addition to her work advising high school and middle school students – in which she uses her own educational experiences to illustrate how they too can achieve academic success – Nared teaches oral communication part time at Chatfield College.
