May 16, 2007

MINNEAPOLIS, May 16, 2007 – It is a new world for IT professionals. They must solve messy, ill-defined problems for their organizations, and develop creative and innovative solutions that have a real impact on the business – both financial and human. Dr. Keith Morneau, faculty chair for Capella University’s undergraduate information technology program, will address those issues when he presents at the Interop conference in Las Vegas on May 22. Capella University is an accredited* online university, and recently began offering a PhD in information technology. Nearly 85 percent of Capella’s students are pursuing master’s or PhD degrees online. Dr. Morneau’s presentation, Information Technology and Human Capital: Can We Combine the Engine of Business and the Heart of Business?, will specifically address the new skill set required by IT professionals to survive in the creative age and how those skills can be learned.

“IT professionals need to see the big picture, to architect solutions to customer problems. The IT professional also needs to work in a global business context, to manage innovative projects using virtual teams,” Dr. Morneau says. “Managers need to develop these core competencies in their employees if they are to maximize their organizations’ value.”

Interop is a leading business technology event, bringing together IT and business leaders to see all of the latest technologies in action. More than 450 exhibitors are scheduled to be at the event in
Las Vegas, and more than 200 educational sessions and live demos will be offered.
