Capella University designated as a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education

MINNEAPOLIS, July 16, 2007 – The National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security have designated Capella University, an accredited* online university based in Minneapolis, as a Center for Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education. Capella is the second university in Minnesota to receive the designation.Capella is one of only 86 higher education institutions in the United States that have received the designation, and one of only a handful of online universities that have achieved it. The designation is valid for the academic years 2007 through 2012.The National Center of Academic Excellence program is intended to reduce vulnerability in our national information infrastructure (IA) by promoting higher education in the field and educating more professionals with IA expertise in various disciplines. The President’s National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace refers to cyberspace as the nervous system of our nation’s critical infrastructures, and indicates that the healthy functioning of cyberspace is essential to our economy and national security.
