October 16, 2007

MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 16, 2007 – Teresa Chaulk, a PhD student at Capella University (www.capella.edu), has been named superintendent of Lincoln County School District Number One in Wyoming. She began in her new role on July 1. Lincoln County School District Number One is located in the southwest portion of Wyoming. Capella is an accredited*, fully online university based in Minneapolis. “I am honored by this opportunity and look forward to continuing to serve the teachers and students of this district,” Chaulk said. Chaulk, who previously led the school district’s special education programs and curriculum development, as well as serving as the alternative school’s principal, said she had hoped to have the opportunity to serve as superintendent since coming to work for the district in 1998. With the nearest four-year university more than 100 miles away from where Chaulk lives in Kemmerer, Wyo., having the option of pursuing a PhD online from an accredited university made her dream of working toward a doctorate – and becoming superintendent – possible.  “It really is a wonderful opportunity to have a reputable online degree program for people like me who are working full time and who would not be able to pursue a PhD otherwise,” Chaulk said. Nearly 85 percent of Capella’s students are pursuing master’s or PhD degrees. Capella is the only fully online university that has state-approved programs in leadership and reading and literacy.  About Capella UniversityFounded in 1993, Capella University is an accredited,* online university that offers graduate degree programs in business, information technology, education, health, human services, public safety, and psychology, and bachelor’s degree programs in business, information technology, health, and public safety.
