MINNEAPOLIS, May 1, 2006 — Capella University, an accredited* online university, announced today that Chief Learning Officer magazine has chosen Capella as its partner in the establishment of the CLO Academy, the industry’s first formalized course of study for workforce learning and development professionals. CLO editors selected Capella University as its partner after considering proposals from several leading institutions of higher learning.

“Our readers have consistently informed us of the need for a reputable, accredited learning path to develop the skills of learning professionals,” said Norm Kamikow, president and editor in chief of MediaTec Publishing, Inc., publishers of Chief Learning Officer magazine. “Capella University was a natural choice as our partner because of their focus on applied learning, general management, and training and performance improvement, and because of their experience working with chief learning officers across the country. Capella has created a course of study that establishes the CLO Academy in a class of its own”

Registration is now open for the CLO Academy at www.clo-academy.com. Learning professionals can achieve certification in three workforce development management tracks through the CLO Academy: learning leadership, learning management, and learning effectiveness. Capella has mapped each track in the curricula to five core competencies for learning leaders: strategic management, general management, knowledge management, leadership skills, and learning methods/concepts. In addition, credits earned through the CLO Academy are eligible for transfer to Capella's graduate online degree programs.

Each learning track will begin with an in-person colloquium, followed by self-paced online classes delivered by Capella's respected scholar-practitioner faculty. The colloquium events will debut with a September 10–12, 2006 program, followed by a December 3–5 program, and quarterly sessions planned for 2007. All colloquium events will be held at the National Conference Center in Lansdowne, Virginia, and will be taught by current CLOs from leading organizations, including IBM, Microsoft, Wal-Mart, General Mills, Marriot International, Toyota, Cingular Wireless, AOL, Capital One, and Defense Acquisition University.

“We're pleased to partner with Chief Learning Officer, which has such a strong reputation in workforce development, in creating the CLO Academy,” said Michael Offerman, president of Capella University. “This new educational offering will help meet the growing need for advanced, accredited education in the learning field.”
