MINNEAPOLIS, August 7, 2006 – Rosemari Mealy, a PhD student in Capella University’s School of Education, has been named an Outstanding Professor of the Year at the City College of New York Center for Worker Education. The students selected Mealy for her overall professionalism and dedication to higher education.

“It really is an honor. Some of the new approaches that I’ve used, I attribute to my own learning experience at Capella,” Mealy said. “For more than 25 years, I have enjoyed teaching at all levels. My studies at Capella have nurtured and transformed my perception of what it really means to be a good teacher.”

Mealy is an adjunct professor at the City University of New York Center for Worker Education, where she teaches courses on sociology, labor studies, and legal studies. She is also employed as an assistant director of education for District Council 37 of AFSCME in New York.

Mealy is pursing a PhD in leadership in higher education at Capella and expects to graduate in 2007. Capella is an accredited online university and a leader in online education.

MINNEAPOLIS, May 8, 2006 — Laurie Huffman, founding coordinator of the Brentwood campus for Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, Calif., has been named Teacher of the Year for Colleges of the Contra Costa County of San Francisco. The district serves nearly 65,000 students.

“I am so honored and thrilled to have received this award. To receive this type of validation for something I love to do is so gratifying,” Huffman said. “My students mean the world to me, and I am committed to helping them succeed, specifically immigrant students who need a hand adapting to life in the United States and reaching their goals.”

Huffman, who is also the chairwoman of Los Medanos College's foreign languages department, earned a doctorate from Capella University's School of Education in 2005. Capella University is an accredited online university that is a pioneer in online education.
