MINNEAPOLIS, June 1, 2006 — Chris Davison, a PhD student at Capella University, will present on the ethical considerations of business continuity and disaster recovery planning at the International Academy of Business and Technology (IABT) conference in Mystic, CT, on June 1. Capella University is an accredited online university and a pioneer in online education.

In his presentation, Davison will explore the theoretical framework and arguments for data privacy and security, as well as customer expectations of privacy related to corporate privacy policies. A typical paradox exists with regard to privacy (e.g., data encryption) and efficiency. In order to use encrypted network data transfers, encrypted backup tapes, or encrypted data storage, an organization must be prepared to assume the added overhead in terms of CPU cycles, larger storage requirements, and time. Davison will conclude by discussing future ethical considerations of data privacy.

“This topic is relevant to both IT practitioners as well as scholars in that it addresses ethical issues that are often overlooked in a predominantly technical domain,” Davison said. “In these days of corporate scandals, ethical considerations of all aspects of organizational management are an important and timely subject.”

Davison is pursuing an online PhD with a IT Management specialization in Capella's School of Business and Technology.
