MINNEAPOLIS, June 29, 2006 — Dr. Robert Rodriguez of Capella University, an accredited online university, spoke Tuesday June 27 at the Society for Human Resource Management’s Annual Conference and Exposition in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Rodriguez, faculty chair of general management and human resources in the School of Business and Technology at Capella, spoke on involving employees in leadership development. He discussed multiple learning methods that are essential to leadership programs, including 360-degree assessments, mentoring programs, action learning projects, and using executives as teachers. More than 300 people attended Dr. Rodriguez’s presentation.

“By turning to existing employees to help develop the next generation of leaders, organizations are taking advantage of the collective knowledge and expertise within their walls, and provides a cost effective way to help in the growth of future leaders,” Rodriguez said. “Such activities have a tremendous return on investment.”

The conference, the world’s largest human resources conference and exposition, was held at the Washington Convention Center and featured an opening session with General Colin Powell.
