MINNEAPOLIS, July 26, 2006 – Jim Hyder, a doctoral student in the School of Education at Capella University, an online university and a leader in online education, has been named the recipient of the 2006 MATEC Industry Recognition Award. Hyder is a training program manager and instructional designer at Intel’s Fab 11X in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. He will be presented with the MATEC (Maricopa Advanced Technology Education Center) award on July 26 at the Semiconductors, Automated Manufacturing, Electronics – Training and Education Conference (SAME-TEC) in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

In addition to participating on projects funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), Hyder has served on a national review board for several grant proposals and is currently an industry advisory board representative for an NSF-funded project.

Hyder is currently studying training and performance improvement at Capella and says a grantsmanship class he took through the online university greatly influenced his success leading up to this award.

“The credibility of the Capella grantsmanship course opened doors for me, including the recommendation that I sit on the industry advisory board and the National Science Foundation grant review board,” he said. “It was through this course that I was able to excel, and I couldn’t have received this award if it weren’t for Capella.”

The MATEC award recognizes key industry personnel for outstanding contributions toward promoting technology education and career awareness. Nominees for the award must have demonstrated an impact on technology education on both a local and national level.
